Use Canva's AI to Create Social Media Graphics for Your Brand
What This Does
Canva's built-in AI tools can generate social media captions, create branded life insurance educational graphics, and resize designs instantly for any platform — so you can produce a week of professional-looking social posts in under an hour without any graphic design experience.
Before You Start
- You have a free Canva account at canva.com
- You're logged in (the free tier includes Magic Write limited uses; Canva Pro = unlimited)
- You have your brand colors and headshot available (optional but helpful)
Steps
1. Start with a social media template
Go to canva.com and click Create a design → search for "LinkedIn post" or "Facebook post." Click a template that has a professional, financial services feel — clean, not too colorful.
What you should see: A template opens in the Canva editor with placeholder text and images.
2. Find the Magic Write AI feature
Click on any text element in the template (like a headline or body text). You'll see a small purple star icon or the word "Magic Write" appear in the text toolbar. Click it.
What you should see: A text input box appears where you can describe what you want the text to say.
Troubleshooting: If you don't see Magic Write, make sure you're in a text element (not an image). On free accounts, you get a limited number of Magic Write uses per month.
3. Describe your social post content
In the Magic Write box, type what you want:
- "Write a LinkedIn post about why young families need life insurance. 3 key points. End with a question. 150 words."
- "Write a Facebook caption about the danger of only having work life insurance. Short, punchy, relatable."
- "Write a headline for a life insurance tip graphic: the topic is beneficiary updates."
Click Generate. Magic Write produces the text and inserts it into your design.
4. Customize the visual elements
Replace the template image with your headshot or a relevant photo:
- Click Elements in the left sidebar → search for "family" or "protection" for stock photos
- Or click the image area → delete → upload your own headshot
Update colors to match your brand by clicking on colored elements and adjusting the hex code.
5. Download and post
Click Share → Download → PNG. Download and post directly to LinkedIn or Facebook. You can also use Canva's Publish to social feature to schedule the post directly from Canva.
What you should see: A professional-looking social post image saved to your computer or phone.
Real Example
Scenario: You want to post something engaging on LinkedIn about a common mistake people make with life insurance — relying on group coverage at work.
In Magic Write: "Write a LinkedIn post: 3 reasons why your employer's life insurance isn't enough. Conversational tone. End with a question asking readers if they've checked their coverage lately."
What you get: A ready-to-use 150-word LinkedIn post that Magic Write inserts into the graphic template. You edit your name and contact info, add your headshot, download, and post — total time: 12 minutes.
Tips
- Create a brand kit (your colors, fonts, logo) in Canva once, then every design uses them automatically — your posts look consistent even when made quickly
- Build 5 posts at once in a batch session once per week — it's faster than doing one at a time
- Save your best-performing templates so you can reuse the layout with different content
